Overlapping roulette neighbour groups: count chips as well as pockets

Two roulette neighbour groups can overlap. The overlap reduces the number of different pockets covered, but it does not automatically remove the extra chips placed on shared pockets.

For the topic overview, see What roulette variant is read?.

To reconcile a selection, keep two totals: distinct covered pockets and the sum of stakes. Counting only the first can understate the amount accepted.

A simplified wheel segment

The PlayNow roulette instructions describe neighbour selections placing chips on several wheel positions. We use lettered positions A through G below to show overlap without pretending to reproduce a numbered wheel.

Assume Group 1 places one 2-unit chip on each of A, B, C, D and E. Group 2 places one 2-unit chip on each of C, D, E, F and G. Both groups are accepted and the second adds stakes rather than replacing the first. These are explicit teaching assumptions.

C, D and E2412
F and G124
All seven positions10 chips total—20

There are 5 + 5 − 3 = 7 different positions because three are shared. But there are still 5 + 5 = 10 accepted chips. Ten chips at 2 units each cost 20. Seven positions multiplied by 2 would give 14 and omit the extra stake on C, D and E.

Two five-position groups: A B C D E + C D E F G; Distinct positions: 5 + 5 − 3 = 7; Accepted chips under the assumptions: 10 × 2 units = 20 units

Coverage and allocation answer different questions

A set of letters can describe coverage: {A, B, C, D, E, F, G}. A money record needs a mapping: A→2, B→2, C→4, D→4, E→4, F→2, G→2. The second representation retains information the first deliberately discards.

If a shared pocket later satisfies a winning selection, use the confirmed amount on that pocket and the applicable payout rule. Do not assume equal stakes across all covered positions after overlapping groups have been added.

Check how the actual control behaves

The example assumes additive placements. An interface that replaces, clears or refuses a second group would produce a different final record. The button clicks alone are not enough; inspect the accepted stake distribution and total.

For a saved history, list every pocket and its final amount once, then sum the amounts. This checks spending without treating neighbouring pockets as a prediction or suggesting that overlap creates an advantage. A missing final confirmation should remain a missing field, not an assumed ten-chip entry.
